Sitting in the office for 5 days a week feeling trapped with no flexibility in your working day is soul destroying.
When your career offers no freedom and you know deep down that you are a free spirit destined for greater things.
There are often other factors in your life where you know you can’t just take off and be “free” in the true sense of the word. The life that allows you to jump on the next flight and take off anywhere without some prior planning.
For the majority of the time though, you feel restricted and some days it’s compounded by the various circumstances surrounding and it’s as though someone is tightening the straight jacket a notch.
When you are a free spirit, there is nothing worse so here’s what you can try before you plan your office escape.
When you are in a middle management position with responsibilities and an unrealistic, ever increasing to do list, you cannot justify taking a break, BUT, your body, mind and spirit need to rest so take it.
You have earned it and are legally entitled to it, so lose the guilt surrounding it. Your desk and work will be as you left it when you return and you will feel much better for being outside for at least 20-30 minutes.
Step out into the fresh air and take a walk in the park or near some water. Be mindful and focus on the freedom in your surroundings and know that one day you can be as free.
Use Your Imagination
Start daydreaming of your future life, what would you do with your new found freedom, who would you be with, where would you be living, what would you be doing for work? Let go of the how before you get paralysed by your thoughts with this one!
When you head back to the office, the pain of being back at your desk will make you more determined to figure out your exit strategy. Thoughts become things, visualisation is powerful but nothing happens without action steps.
Make the most of doing things that make you are free at evenings and weekends; your play time out of work.
Make sure you have fun and do activities that make you laugh. Surround yourself with friends and family and notice when you feel free. Capture that moment in your heart.
Do what you enjoy doing. Remember what we said as children, are you coming out to play? Remember how you felt? Be happy and free.
Be Mindful Of Your Reaction
When you react with an immediate response, it says more about you than the person saying it. Remember they have an opinion and a right to express it. Instead of reacting, take a moment to pause and think about how you respond. Accept it is their thought and although they may be right or wrong, you can choose how you react and how it affects you, so let go of the control and relax!
A super simple technique you can do in the office is head to the bathroom and refresh yourself with a splash of water on your face, or even a water mist spray.
When you’re not in the office, why not head to the pool, jump in and have a splash around!
